One Ministry-Two Names
Rehema means Mercy in Swahili. Rehema Grace was found abandoned on a cold, rainy day in a cornfield with her umbilical cord still attached. Jeff and Carla named her Rehema Grace because of God's mercy and grace in her life. Rehema Ministries was born.
In October 2006 Rehema Ministries was granted nonprofit status. In 2008, we were granted a Certificate of Registration to operate a children's home in Kenya. When we filed for the name Rehema Ministries in Kenya it was already in use. Jeff and Carla's home church in Kennewick WA is called In Step Community Church. Their church is so supportive of the ministry that the name In Step Foundation just seemed like the perfect way to say thank you. Then when a little girl named Sharon showed up at our door wearing a pair of worn-out shoes (see logo), Jeff asked her if she would trade him her shoes for a brand new pair. Those shoes are a reminder of the needs of the children and our humble beginnings.
